BUYING A WEDDING DRESS ONLINE, IS IT WORTH IT? – Ladies who online
I’m always skeptical about buying clothes online for some obvious reasons. One is not being able to try it on, see or feel the materials. You might end up getting clothes that don’t look good on you, too big or small, or of bad quality. I did something scary though. Buying a wedding dress online! Oops!
Before you call me crazy, hear me out first! The reason I purchased my wedding dress online is that I didn’t want to splurge on a dress that I would wear once for just a few hours. If it ended up bad, it wouldn’t be that expensive. I’ll just have to buy another one. It’s a unideal, but it’s always good to have a Plan B. Now, I didn’t just jump to it. It took me months of doing research, reading reviews, and asking questions before I purchased my dream wedding dress.
Finding the right dress online is not that easy, but it can be rewarding.
Buying a wedding dress at CocoMelody’s online store. But before that, I contacted them through their online chat (and got in touch via email eventually) and asked them tons of questions.
These are the dresses I liked (screenshot photo from CocoMelody’s website). I ended up buying the A-line silhouette (on the right) as I feel like it would look better on my petite body.
I was torn between a sheath-column lace dress and an A-line lace organza dress. Since I’m petite, I leaned towards the A-line silhouette so I wouldn’t look tiny next to My Big Guy. I love the thinner strap and lower back of the sheath-column dress. Therefore, I asked first if they could do this on the A-line dress. I was so happy when I received the confirmation from the seamstress that it’s possible for an extra cost. It wasn’t that much considering that I’ll get what I want. It was a no-brainer. I know that the alteration cost in Dubai will be so much more and to find a good seamstress will be a challenge. For this reason, I opted for a custom size (for an extra charge) as my measurements didn’t match their standard sizing. I didn’t have the date for the wedding when I purchased the dress. Hence, I opted for the rush order (again, at an additional cost) as I wanted the dress to be ready in 35 days. Since the wedding gown was on 58% off, the total amount I paid including the extra charges was still cheaper than its full price. Awesome!
Taken from my email communication with CocoMelody’s customer service, confirming if the dress is what I wanted. Spot on!
When ordering online, measuring yourself beforehand is mandatory, as you must type in this information if you will go for a custom-size dress. I selected the white color (I would have preferred ivory, but I’m scared the color might be too yellowish to my liking, so I went for the safest) with the quail belt/ribbon that went well with my color theme. The website has a video guidance on how to get your body measurements, and I suggest watching it. I followed the instructions and got everything right, considering my dress fit me perfectly.
I looked taller than I am as I was wearing a 5-inch wedge so I wouldn’t look too short next to My Big Guy. An extra 3 inches in the dress’s length turned out to be perfect with my shoes on.
The dress turned out to be beautiful. It fit like a glove, and the quality is remarkably good. It’s worth more than what I paid for with all the materials and the details in the dress. The alterations were as per my demands, and I was delighted with the outcome. There’s not a thing I would do or change because it’s exquisite.
The low back, the ribbon and the train made the dress look sexy (modest), elegant and dramatic.
I’m grateful for the customer service at CocoMelody, as they were just the best. They were accommodating, thorough, and reassuring. Their prompt response made getting the dress online a pleasant experience. The only issue I faced was the anklets. I ordered two types. One was not ready when everything else was, so I told them not to wait for it. The other one was damaged when I received it, which upset me a little. But I let it go since I realized I didn’t need it. I was just over the moon that my dress was perfect.
P.S.
I would highly recommend buying the garment bag ($15) with the dress, especially if you are transporting it. It is very functional as it folds to a rectangular form that made it easy to travel with (I flew to Seychelles from Abu Dhabi and transported the garment bag as my carry-on).

And hey, just because you’re spending on something doesn’t mean you’re not saving.
