SURVIVING AND THRIVING: MY PANDEMIC MOTHERHOOD

SURVIVING AND THRIVING: MY PANDEMIC MOTHERHOOD – Ladies Who Online

Being a new mom is nerve-wracking as it is. But to be doing it when the world is also on a rollercoaster ride can leave you in a tight spot while trying to manage your expectations.

Every mom-to-be worries about taking care of her baby and making sure they’re safe. But this year, mothers have had to additionally worry about hygiene and immunity. It’s so much clutter that it’s difficult to sort and filter out accurate information and verify facts nowadays, which now causes more anxiety.

Also, as the world works on how to better tackle the situation, we’ve had to keep anticipating changes in regulations concerning hygiene and movement. I know ladies who’ve been worried about going for regular check-ups because of how much they can be exposed to the infection when they step out of their homes. It’s also not the easiest time to ensure whether you’re mentally and emotionally fit to welcome a child – a human who will also be heavily dependent on you for the coming years!

But, this past year, a lot of us have successfully done it. It’s an understatement when they say your ‘motherly instincts kick in’. From experience, research, and open conversations (talking to many ladies who have just given birth or are currently pregnant), I’ve discovered three things. Transitioning into pandemic motherhood is easier if you can find:

1. One thing that brings you peace.

2. One thing that helps you unwind and center yourself.

3. One thing that you can hang onto.

These ‘things’ can be in the form of, maybe, walking in the park, doing meditation, drinking your favorite tea, going to your favorite corner to read, painting, baking, or even sleeping! Whatever it is that will help you calm down and enjoy your existence on earth will help see you through this stressful time.

I’ve done it, and it’s not easy. It has a learning curve, but it’s possible!
