Celebrating International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day in the UAE

Last March, we celebrated International Women’s Day and Mother’s day in Dubai and the UAE.

For International Women’s Day, some of the Ladies Who Online members attended the Women At Work event at Chattels & More in Mall of the Emirates. It was a full house filled with women from all walks of life.

The event hosts presented an amazing line-up of women thought-leaders who shared so many insightful things. The inspiring panelists were @sara_almadani_ @kellylundbergofficial @drsalihaAfridi, @NatalieCrampton for @TECsocialize and Pretti Mundhra for @livbank. Some of the topics that were discussed were about the struggles and successes of being a working mother. Several of the ladies who were part of the panel also talked about finding the best work-life balance.

Kelly Lundberg shared that there is no perfect timing, and I agree with what she said. If you want to start your business or whatever it is you’ve been itching to do, then the right time is now! Don’t wait for any more signs to help you decide to do things. But if you’re still looking for one, then this it! Just go for it!

Serial entrepreneur, Sara Almadani also gave us advice saying that there is no formula for success. It’s something that you need to create for yourself, by yourself and cater to yourself.

These amazing women had a straight vision when it came to where they wanted to be in the future. Several of these ladies started in the business by selling cookies and electronics. One of them even quit her job to pursue her dream. Now, they’re all on the right path. Just follow your dream and have a vision in place. Just do it now.

I also wanted to share what Dr. Saliha Afridi said at one of the Mother’s Day events that I attended. And she bestowed a piece of very good advice for all the mothers and parents out there. “I will let them see the human in me. I will let them see the suffering in me, and I will let them see what I’m doing every day. I’m doing service to people.”

As a mother, my advice to my fellow parents is to not be hard on yourself. This is an important journey in your life. Whatever you are feeling, whether that’s pain or suffering, try to enjoy and learn from these experiences. Just make sure that your kids are feeling it too. Explain things to them and always talk to them. Make sure that they’re part of the conversation, and learn to share the whole experience with them. It’s the connection between the parents and the children that should matter. Surely, they will understand where you’re coming from.
